John's advice to me when I was training to be a Local Preacher in the Methodist Church

Hi John was always very encouraging to me as I came late to training to be a Local Preacher.  I was for many years a member of the Salvation Army sadly within churches things happen and I left the SA and came the following Sunday to Wellington Methodist Church.  John was very supportive and was at Wellington Food for Thought one Wednesday morning.  He had been at one of my early services as a trainee Local Preacher.

On that Thursday he caught my hand at the end of Food for Thought and said, "Carol don't let them turn you into a Methodist".  You might think that was a strange thing to say but I understand he was talking about my style of preaching not necessarily the content although that had to be right too.  I have never forgot what he said and try always to uphold that message.  I will always have as long as I continue in my Christian pathway those words - Be true to yourself!
